I donapos;t think I will have ANY regrets about purchasing this game, other than maybe the sleep I might lose. The game is gorgeous (although I still need to see someone elseapos;s HD set up - sometimes I wonder if Iapos;m being too critical with mine, or if I donapos;t have it set up correctly.)
The game is amazingly well laid out - everything you need to know is right at your fingertips, without need for a HUD. The integration into the back of the suit was a brilliant move. Not to mention that everything else is displayed through holographics, which you can view from any angle as you rotate the camera around Isaac. And the fact that his head moves to "examine" the item you select in the inventory? Itapos;s the little touches like this that really sell the world.
The atmosphere is incredibly well done - itapos;s not so much "jumpy" scary as it is just DISTURBING. The sound, especially - thereapos;s little music, and most of what you hear is random creaking of the ship and unidentifiable sounds. Plus the lighting is very well done - lots of black corners, and what lighting there is is usually very subdued, and dim. Makes you very wary about going ANYWHERE, and youapos;re never sure if what youapos;re hearing is just background, or the sounds of bad guys creeping up on you.
The game play is a LOT of fun. Cutting limbs off your enemies is never going to get old, I suspect, especially as you gather more and more methods for doing so. But the best so far has been using the stasis field to slow them down (think bullet time, only in a limited space, while youapos;re still moving at full speed) - you can cut off their legs, and then WHILE THEYapos;RE FALLING IN MID AIR, decapitate them, or more importantly, take off an arm. (Yes, headshots mean SQUAT in this game.)
Not to mention I just discovered that the waiting movie (i.e. Load the game, and then donapos;t do anything) is the much hyped, much restricted "Twinkle Twinkle" trailer for the game.
These guys have made an AMAZING game. I canapos;t wait to experience the rest of the universe that theyapos;ve built (Dead Space: Downfall) and see what they do as a follow on.
